Challenge 16: Wrinkle-Free Distress

over at StudioL3 the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge is still going strong, and here is my entry




Let me apologize right up front for these pictures, no matter what I did there were no good shots this time. As for that one being sideways, I saved that picture 4 times, going in all four directions and blogger would not load ONE of them right side up. Sorry.

so, lets start off with the technique....I LOVE IT... it is so easy to do and to come up with a really really neat background....I made about 20 before I made myself stop. lol


Ok, and I used four DI for this, antique linen, firebrick, faded jeans and tea dye, the birds are Tims, but the trees are unknown. White gel pen for the snow, white embossing powder for the star and the rest were scraps from other projects.

Challenge 15: Alcohol Ink Agate on Grunge

Ok, here is this weeks submission for the Compendium of Curiosities challenge over at Studio L3. (this is such a fun place to visit and there are SO many Great and talented artists who freely share their artwork - go there NOW!!! lol)

The challenge this week was to do the Alcohol ink Agate technique on grunge...never having done this technique before, I kinda hesitated a bit, but decided that I should try anyway...not positive the outcome is anything like anyone else's, but in the end, I like it.



I didn't have the pearl paint so just used white acrylic for the base..worked out. Here is a list of all the stuff I used...didn't seem like that much at the time, but wow, when I wrote it all down?

bagin basement holes ribbon



whew, that's it...I also covered the butterfly with glossy accents and let it dry to add shine and then stamped and embossed the black musical score to add a little more dimension.

Drunken Stampers Challenge

ok, so once I did one challenge I decided that since I liked it I would have to try some others. Here is the first of the others lol

Drunken stampers is having a challenge using both dry embossing and painting...and here is my take on that...very simple...or simplistic, depending on your point of view lol


Dry embossed with Tims patchwork texture fade, dry brushed silver paint over that, matted on black cardstock and embossed a snowflake theme on a white card with antique linen DI. Cut out a tag and distressed with antique linen and a green(non tim - bad girl) ink and added a ribbon. See? pretty simple.

Compendium of Curiosities, Week 14!

StudioL3 is still giving us these really hard challenges. You know, the ones where we have to CRAFT!!!! lol and we are on Week 14? WOW moving right along aren't we?

So here is my take on masking. I've done this before and I love the way it comes out.




I used two TH masks for this one, the small flourish and the crown, inked the tag with several different DI colors. Spritz it with my perfect pearls mix, stamped the sentiment and the




butterflies. Stamped words on the flower and attached it with a loopy brad (hammered), which is also holding the blessings charm. Added a photo corner to the bottom (hammered). Used his tissue tape to make the 'ribbon' at the top, and finished it with some glossy accents on the butterflies. Did I miss anything? lol {yes as a matter of fact I did, I brushed some scattered straw stickles onto the flower petals.}

per, I think I might be in love. I do not have the die for Tim's flowers so I copied the outline from the net and cut them out by hand. I think they turned out pretty good. Thanks for looking

Update on the Ride to Provide

Annual Cpl David W Moss Memorial Observance

The memorial this morning was very nice. Tastefully done. I love being able to honor David like this every year - it is important to me that he be remembered, not just because I love him (notice the present tense? I DO still love him, I don't quit loving people just cuz they die, and that's a good thing or there would be a WHOLE lot less love in my life!!) but also so that his sacrifice is forever there. He absolutely was in the line of work he wanted to be in, he was a cop in his heart, not just in his choice of fashion. He was one of those people who knew from childhood what they were going to be when they grew up. A Cop. A man that stands between the people he cares about and the bad guys that would do them harm. A man that can make a difference in a whole lotta lives, a positive difference. A man that remains strong no matter what, but cries inside every time he sees an injustice done and strives to right the wrongs and ease the hurts. He loved what he did and if he could talk to me now I believe that he would tell me that his life ended in a manner consistant with that dream. I've been told that he was a good cop and I believe the ones that told me that (naive? maybe, but I don't care, my choice) and I am still proud of that man with the wonderful laugh and the love he shared with so many. I still miss him and probably always will.

Thank you Williston Police Department for honoring him every year. I know that it is not really as easy as it looks on the outside. You do a great job and you make him proud.

Thank you Chief, for standing up and doing what you feel is the right thing to do, even when it means missing part of your vacation.

Thank you Gail, for all the work you put into the planning and execution of this memorial. You have done a wonderful job once again.

Thank you John, for sweating your butt off and getting that awesome music and all those other little things you do to help make it happen.

Thank you Jimmy, it means so much to me, and to David, knowing that you are able to share in these observances.

Thank you to the officers who stand there in the sweltering heat to show your respect to a fallen brother.

Thank you to the people who were there, both in person and in spirit, you help to make this so special.

And, thank you to Traveler, for the support and love you have shown me over the years when it comes to David, this makes you very special to me. (and for stepping up when Chief blindsided you with his request this morning - lol)

Annual Cpl David W Moss Memorial Observance preview

Ok, so tomorrow is the 22 anniversary of David’s death. I could not believe it when I look at last year and there isn’t a post, how did THAT happen? Probably FaceBooks fault.

Anyway, tomorrow is the Annual Memorial at Williston Police Department (I guess one day I will have to post the outline of what happened that night, but not right now). This year will a bit different though, as Chief Davis is on vacation and Mr. Clay is in the hospital!! Bruce retired and there is no one else who was here then. I know it will be tasteful and beautiful, as they have proven in the past they are Great.

The Police Department sent out an invitation via FaceBook and people have actually RSVP’d, so let’s see how that works out…should make it even better!

David’s brother Jim is going to try to make it up again this year…he came up last year and we went to Jack’s for lunch after the trip out to the cemetery. It rained so hard that we couldn’t see the cars out the window.

This is an extremely solemn occasion and I really appreciate what the Williston Police Department does every year to help me keep his memory alive – but I must admit that I have an unbelievably difficult time staying serious…at least where others can see or hear or read what I’m saying/doing/writing…and it tends to cause embarrassment later when I look back at some of the silly things that occurred.

Anyways, this is just a rambling post as a prelude to the memorial tomorrow…and I’m hoping I have the remembering in place to write about how well it went.
